Important roadworks information
M1 northbound junction 11a to junction 14 – roadside technology, resurfacing and maintenance works
I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out roadside technology, resurfacing and maintenance works on the M1 northbound between junction 11a and junction 14. This will ensure the M1 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.
We plan to complete this work overnight on Thursday 20 August 2026. We will work between 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M1 northbound between junctions 11a and 14 and divert traffic as follows:
- Traffic will leave the M1 at junction 11a and take the A5 Dunstable Northern Bypass.
- At the roundabout with A5 Watling Street, take the second exit and then at the immediate next roundabout, take the second exit onto the A505.
- Follow the A505 to Billington Road Roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A4146.
- Continue to follow the A4146 for some time, until you reach Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout.
- Take the third exit onto Brickhill Road, and then V10 Brickhill Street.
- At Walton Park Roundabout, take the third exit onto the A4146 Bletcham Way.
- At Browns Wood Roundabout, take the third exit onto A4146 Bletcham Way.
- Continue to follow the A4146 on Tongwell Street.
- At Fox Milne Roundabout, take the third exit onto H6 Childs Way.
- At Northfield Roundabout, take the second exit on the A509.
- Approach M1 junction 14 and take the appropriate exit to rejoin the motorway.
Please note emergency vehicles will have access into the closure but with caution.
