Important roadworks information
M1 northbound junction 9 to junction 11a – roadside technology, resurfacing and maintenance works
I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out roadside technology, resurfacing and maintenance works on the M1 northbound between junction 9 and junction 11a. This will ensure the M1 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.
We plan to complete this work overnight on Wednesday 19 August 2026. We will work between 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M1 northbound between junctions 9 and 11a and divert traffic as follows:
- Leave the M1 northbound at junction 9 and take the first exit at the roundabout onto the A5183.
- Follow the A5183 into Dunstable town centre. Continue ahead onto the A505.
- Take the A505 through Dunstable until you reach the roundabout with the A5 Dunstable Northern Bypass.
- Take the second exit and follow the A5 Dunstable Northern Bypass until you reach M1 junction 11a.
- Rejoin the M1 northbound at junction 11a.
- For traffic wishing to join the M1 northbound at junction 11, take the A505 across Luton until you reach Dunstable town centre. Turn right onto A505 High Street North, rejoining the diversion above.
Please note emergency vehicles will have access into the closure but with caution.
