Important roadworks information
M1 junction 9 (Friars Wash Interchange) southbound entry slip road and lane closures both ways between junction 8 (Breakspear Interchange) and junction 9 – resurfacing
I’m writing to let you know that we’re planning resurfacing work on the M1 junction 9 southbound entry slip roads and on the M1 between junctions 8 and 9 in both directions. Once the work is complete, drivers will have a safer, smoother journey and a better-defined road surface.
We plan to complete this work over approximately 7 weeks starting from Tuesday 7 April 2026. We will work between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M1 junction 9 southbound entry slip roads. There will also be lane closures both ways between M1 junctions 8 and 9. You won’t need to follow a diversion for the lane closures, as one lane will stay open. However, if you’re planning to use the M1 junction 9 southbound entry slip roads, please follow the diversion route below:
If you want to join the M1 southbound at junction 9, please:
- Continue northbound on the M1 to junction 10 (Pepperstock Junction)
- Leave the M1 at junction 10 and turn around
- Rejoin the M1 southbound at junction 10
- Continue your journey southbound
