Important roadworks information
M1 southbound full closure between junction 11A and junction 9 – collaborative cyclical/reactive works, maintenance & response, operational roadside technology, resurfacing
I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out collaborative cyclical reactive works, maintenance & response activities, operational roadside technology maintenance, and resurfacing on the M1 southbound between junction 11A and junction 9. This will ensure the M1 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.
We plan to complete this work overnight on Saturday 25 April 2026. We will work between 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M1 southbound between junction 11A and junction 9 and divert traffic as follows:
- Drivers planning to travel southbound should exit the M1 at junction 11A
- At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit towards Dunstable on the A5
- Continue straight ahead at the next roundabout onto the Dunstable Northern Bypass (A5 link road)
- Continue along the Dunstable Northern Bypass, going straight ahead at the following roundabout
- At Thorn roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A505 Watling Street
- Continue straight ahead at the next roundabout, remaining on Watling Street
- Continue onto the A5183
- At the next roundabout, continue straight ahead to the following roundabout
- Take the 1st exit to join the M1 at junction 9 southbound
Please note emergency vehicles will not have access through the works.
