Important roadworks information
M1 southbound and northbound between junction 8 and junction 6 and
A414 link road eastbound and westbound (adjoining M1) – resurfacing

I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out resurfacing work on the M1 junction 8 to junction 6 along with A414 link road eastbound and westbound where it joins the M1.

We plan to begin this work on Monday 20 July 2026 until October. All closures are shown in the table below, subject to weather conditions.

Closure	Date	Diversion
M1 southbound	20 July 9pm to 22 August 5am Monday to Friday	Traffic leaves the M1 at junction 8, following St Albans Road towards the A41 Traffic then joins the A41, going southbound, continuing onto Watford Road Traffic then leaves the A41, and continues westbound on North Western Avenue Traffic then continues northbound on Kingsway North Orbital Road, rejoining the M1 southbound at junction 6
A414 eastbound	20 July 9pm to 22 August 5am Monday to Friday	Traffic leaves the A414 at junction 8, following St Albans Road eastbound towards the A41 Traffic then joins the A41, going southbound, continuing on Watford Road Traffic then leaves the A41, and continues westbound on North Western Avenue Traffic continues onto Kingsway North Orbital Road, then North Orbital Road where they rejoin the A414 at Park Street Roundabout
M1 northbound	7 September 10pm to 18 September 5am, Monday to Thursday 5 October 10pm to 10 October 5am Monday to Thursday	Traffic leaves the M1 at junction 6, travelling westbound on A405/North Orbital Road Traffic then travels on Watford Road, then joins the A41 travelling northbound Traffic then joins the A414 eastbound, rejoining the M1northbound at junction 8
A414 westbound	Friday 11 September Friday 18 September Monday 21 September 10pm to 5am	Traffic leaves the A414 at Park Street Roundabout, traveling southbound on the A405/North Orbital Road Traffic then travels on Watford Road, then joins the A41 travelling northbound Traffic then rejoins the A414

Please note emergency vehicles will have access through the works with caution.
