Important roadworks information
M1 between junctions 9 and 11a – essential maintenance repairs
I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out monthly essential maintenance repairs on the M1 between junctions 9 and 11a in both directions. Work includes technology repairs, drainage, surface repairs and sign cleaning.
We continue to do regular maintenance on the M1 in this location on pre-planned dates to keep the road in a good condition, rather than wait until there are issues where we need to do emergency repairs.
We plan to complete this work overnight on the 21 January and 24 January 2026. We will work between 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M1 between junctions 9 and 11a and divert traffic as follows:

| M1 northbound between junctions 9 and 11a | Wednesday 21 January 2026 | Drivers should leave the M1 northbound at junction 9 and follow the A5183. Continue onto the A505 and then onto the A5 where you can rejoin the M1 junction 11a.
Drivers wishing to join the M1 northbound at junction 10 will be diverted southbound to junction 9 and follow the diversion above Drivers wishing to join the M1 northbound at junction 11, will be diverted via the A505 to join the A5 then rejoin the M1 junction 11a. |
| M1 southbound between junctions 11a and 9 | Saturday 24 January 2026 | Drivers should leave the M1 southbound at junction 11a and follow the A5 Join the A505 and continue to the A5183 where you can rejoin the M1 junction 9.
Drivers wishing to join the M1 southbound at junction 11 will be diverted via the A505 to the A5183 to rejoin the M1 junction 9 southbound. Drivers wishing to join the M1 southbound at junction 10, will be diverted northbound to junction 11 to follow the diversion from junction 11 above. |
