A5 between Thorn Roundabout and Tebworth – resurfacing works
We’re planning to carry out resurfacing works on the A5 between Thorn Roundabout and Tebworth. Once complete, drivers should benefit from a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface.
We plan to complete this work overnight starting Tuesday 18 August 2026. We will work between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A5 northbound and southbound between Thorn Roundabout and Tebworth and divert traffic as follows:
Southbound diversion:
- Drivers will leave the A5 at Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout and join the A4146
- Continue on the A4146 to the A505
- Follow the A505 to Thorn Roundabout
- Rejoin the A5
- The diversion ends once traffic has rejoined the A5
Northbound diversion:
- Drivers travelling northbound will follow the same diversion route in reverse
- The diversion ends once traffic has rejoined the A5
Local access will be maintained on the A5 between Kelly’s Kitchen Roundabout and Hockliffe. Residents between Tebworth and Thorn Roundabout will be escorted to and from their properties by vehicle escort.
Access for workers and customers of the Redwings Hotel will also be maintained.
Please note emergency vehicles will have access through the works with caution
