On Wednesday 12 February 2025, our Environmental Enforcement Team, with support from Hertfordshire Police seized a vehicle linked to a January fly-tipping incident on Pepsal Lane, Watling. The vehicle was located and seized in Chaulden, Hemel Hempstead.
An investigation into the fly-tipping incident is ongoing with our Environmental Enforcement Team, and we are confident in pursuing legal action against those that are responsible. This action is part of our ongoing efforts to disrupt and tackle illegal waste crime and ensure a cleaner, safer environment for all residents.
This is part of the UK government crackdown on fly-tipping, by empowering councils to work with police to seize and crush vehicles used for illegal waste dumping. Under new legislation from Defra, offenders could face up to five years in prison, and enables councils to charge fly-tippers for vehicle seizure and storage costs, and reduces bureaucratic barriers that have hindered vehicle seizures by councils
